Almost every year around the holidays I usually take a little extra time off of work to start a larger project around the house, and it will inevitably drag on for longer than expected and cost approximately double the original estimate that sold my amazingly understanding wife on the idea. I’m happy to say that this year will be no exception. Tonight, I had my Dad over for a little planning, and to persuade him to donate a little bit of his time to help me out.
You may remember a while back we did an overview of the plans we had for our guest room/office here. We were originally thinking about creating some sort of a corner bed, but after some more time scrolling the never ending pages of Pinterest we hatched a new dream that involves this wall of our guest room/office.

Now envision something that looks a little like this (originally found here) built into the wall.

Pretty awesome, right? Now check out what ours looks like so far…

Ok, so it’s just some high level plans right now, but it’s at least a step towards our vision.

The reason I had my Dad over tonight was to help me measure, and plan out this ambitious winter project. He’s had a lot of experience with these sort of things so it’s always nice to be able to bounce ideas back and forth to figure out the best plan of attack, and begin to write out a supply list.

Right now this rough plan includes a queen size bed built into the wall flanked on either side by bookshelves connected by an archway overhead. And the best part comes where the second doorway in the room will get covered up and be turned into a shoe and coat closet next to the side entrance door to the house. Obviously this won’t be a one weekend project so we’ll keep you updated as we go along. What about yourself? Do you have any winter projects lined up?

I saw something like this on another blog (http://theletteredcottage.net/reading-room-redo/) for a smaller room and thought it was great. Can’t wait to follow the progress and see the finished product. Good luck!
